During this time of Hanukkah (Chanukah) we celebrate with our Jewish Sisters and Brothers. This is an eight-day festival of lights commemorating the rededication of the Temple after purifying it from the idolatrous activities that defiled it in the second century BCE. The celebration includes special blessings, prayers, songs, and the nightly lighting of the Menorah. With our Jewish Sisters and Brothers, we pray for peace, especially peace in the Middle East. We pray that in this time of global consciousness and connection, we will no longer see neighbor hurting neighbor, will be purified of the hatred that defiles all we hold sacred, and will rededicate ourselves to the sacred work of peacemaking. This is a festival time; may it be one filled with peace and joy.
